Symptai is leading the recruitment process on behalf of a client organization for the role of a Human Resource Manager to lead the Human Resource operation in Jamaica. The client organization operates in the compliance and fraud prevention sector and the employees support the development of comprehensive solutions to help organizations comply with regulations, and combat theft, fraud, money laundering and other forms of financial crime. Every year billions of dollars are laundered internationally, supporting drug trafficking, smuggling, fraud, extortion and corruption, enabling organized crime activities. Fighting financial crime using advanced data analytics is a cutting-edge space with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) software and advanced analytics being driven by some of the brightest minds in the industry.

As the Human Resource Manager, you will get an opportunity to work with an international company to support and take ownership of all HR matters across the company. The HR Manager will have responsibilities for bringing thought leadership and implementing best practices in the areas of change management, talent acquisition and retention, performance management, leadership, learning and development, organizational design and development, employee engagement, reward and recognition, compensation, diversity and inclusion, and coaching for high-performance.

The role is empowered and expected to operate cross-functionally to build/acquire and maintain systems to support HR strategic and operational initiatives that underpin the people pillar of the company’s strategic objectives.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree; and an advanced degree or professional certification in Human Resources or the equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Minimum 5- 7 years experience in a progressive human resources generalist role, minimum 2 years of which has been spent in a management capacity. 

  • Experience must include hands-on responsibility for the full scope of human resources operations. 

  • Extensive Knowledge of Jamaican labour laws.

  • Exceptional relationship building skills including ability to influence and build consensus across cross-functional teams.

  • Energetic professional who doesn't mind wearing multiple hats. Experienced in handling a wide range of duties and executive support-related tasks

  • Able to work independently with little or no supervision.

  • Well organized, flexible, and enjoys the challenges of supporting an office of diverse people.

  • Can quickly establish credibility and respect and build strong working relationships with department managers. Demonstrable maturity, professionalism and integrity

  • Act as a role model for the organization looks beyond own team as a role model and source of knowledge. Works with others in a collaborative and solutions focused manner to achieve win-win outcomes

  • Able to work to deadlines and adapt to changing conditions; ability to generate effective and pragmatic solutions to new situations and problems as they are presented

  • Demonstrate an understanding of personalities and behavioral styles in order to work collaboratively with a variety of people and to make informed decisions

  • The ability to inspire confidence of the Management Team through timely delivery of information and plans.

  • Works independently, but consults where appropriate

  • Strong working knowledge of local employment law issues and the ability to apply these to a variety of situations using a pragmatic and common-sense approach


  • Acts as the face of HR for the Jamaica Operation with responsibility for day-to-day HR management

  • Leads talent acquisition and recruitment activity including sourcing, attracting and attaining key hires and establishing talent acquisition plans and standardized recruiting and placement practices and procedures to attract and retain a superior workforce.

  • Works with Leadership Team to define competency and skills requirements and implements training programs to address company competency and skills’ gaps to proactively fulfill resource and business requirements

  • Provides consultation in the design and management of the organization’s culture, serving as part of the organization’s culture building process

  • Maintains and provides information and reports on critical HR Metrics such as attrition, references, cost per hire, etc. to drive organizational effectiveness

  • Addresses performance and resource transition/redundancy discussions/issues in a legally compliant and professional way

  • Ensures all local HR policies and procedures are up to date and legally compliant.

  • Supports the management of employment litigation pending against the Company, including working with inside and outside counsel, evaluating claims, attending and providing representation of organization at personnel related hearings and investigations and negotiating settlements

  • Conducts internal investigations and resolves disputes to mitigate claim risk to the Company

  • Maintains the utmost confidentiality in dealing with employee and business information

  • Provides day to day advice to managers on all human resource issues: management of staff, remuneration, etc.

  • Oversees Jamaica employee benefit programs. Analyzes existing benefit policies of the site and prevailing practices among similar organizations to establish competitive benefits programs and recommends benefit plan changes to Leadership Team.

  • Prepares and manages notification and communication to employees of changes in benefits programs.

  • Supports negotiations with local benefit carriers, brokers, or agencies with respect to premiums, terms and conditions, renewals and modifications of group benefit insurance contracts.

  • Uses excellent customer service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, leaders, and all members of the general public

  • Responsible for leading the accurate completion of local salary surveys within labor markets to determine competitive wage rates. Analyzes wage and salary reports/recommendations and data to determine local competitive compensation plans

  • Responsible for record keeping of personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations

  • Explains Human Resources department programs, policies, and activities; negotiates and resolves sensitive and controversial issues

  • Identify local employment legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting Human Resources function and monitor exposure of the company. Direct the preparation of information requested or required for compliance. Approve all information submitted. Act as primary contact with local employment counsel and outside government agencies

  • Protect interests of employees and the company in accordance with company Human Resources policies and governmental laws and regulations and ensure fair and consistent treatment of employees throughout the company.
